Word/Play

Meet Bella (The/Them) and Anushka (She/Her),
Anushka and Bella have joined forces, combining their passions for poetry and songwriting to bring you the creative writing and performance class you’ve been waiting for. This class will allow students to write, sing, and/or speak through their emotions and get to know themselves and each other better. The class, titled  “Word/Play,” is a space for self knowledge and expression through the words we use. Class participants will explore poetry, songwriting and music, and by the end of our time together, will be featured in an exclusive zine and have the opportunity to express their work through performance.

Meet Zana (They/She),
Join Zana for a class exploring still life inspired slab building and sculpture with clay. Learn to work with your hands to create ceramics that speak to you and your individual style. Students will have the chance to create pieces to be showcased in a final gallery alongside their peers. Zana’s workshop encourages students to express themselves through hands-on, ceramic art creation.

Meet Chris (He/Him),
Join Chris for a hip-hop based movement progressive, where you will learn how to groove and express yourself through movement. Explore how dance can help release stress and build confidence. Students will learn freestyle movement as well as choreography and produce pieces to share either on stage or on video.

Meet Danni (She/Her),
Danni Daysky Okemaw is honoured to be sharing Indigenous culture, language and teachings with IDEE youth through Powwow dance. Protocol will be given from the IDEE program to participate in Indigenous teachings such as kinship, kindness, sharing and reciprocity. We will explore the different styles, stories and songs of the Powwow circle. Join Danni in exploring the roots of powwow dance and Indigenous culture.

Meet Maddie (She/Her) and Nadia (She/Her),
Have you ever been scrolling through your phone in your bed, watching users make amazing art projects that you’ve always wanted to try, but didn’t have the space, time, or money for? This workshop is for you! Maddie and Nadia will be teaching students how to develop and connect with art in an accessible way. Over the course of 4 weeks, create a collection of artwork using various different techniques of crafting and art making. Workshops will cover mediums such as drawing, collage, painting, and sculpture, allowing students to find their niche(s). The workshop will allow students to work through creative ideas with instructors and peers, leading to final works of their creation.

Meet Britt (They/Them) and Ren (They/Them) Is This Art? Collective
Britt and Ren invite creatives of all levels to overcome art fears through a four-week collage workshop. Come as you are and create what you like, all are welcome! Each participant will make (at least) one collaged work to display at a final art showcase, and there will be one group collage to be displayed in addition. Students are encouraged to make however many pieces they feel inspired to, there is not a limit.
